Artful and Educational

Interview with Sarah and Moe of Lalonde Studios

On a recent March morning, I had the pleasure of meeting with Sarah and Moe Lalonde of Lalonde Studios to discuss their art and their backgrounds in STEM education. They even showed some of their art—-Moe’s intricate wood sculptures  are highly formalist and work within the language of two-dimensional design while maintaining their impressive contouring and three-dimensionality. Sarah’s paintings often reference nature, from animals to plants, with a soft palette of warm, inviting pastel hues. She also makes gorgeous greeting cards with hand-painted images on the front.

Our conversation started with some questions about their backgrounds in education, and we went from there.

Meeting Sarah and Moe was a refreshing reminder to live a life of purpose and to honor our own interests. They have shaped their home around their art, taking great care to build studio spaces that suit their specific creative needs. Sarah’s studio has well-planned areas for painting and storage, and even the color of the walls feels like an extension of her art (imagine seeing 50 of her paintings displayed salon-style against a gallery wall painted the same color as her studio—who would be able to look away?!). Moe has built a wood studio with gorgeous natural light (an artist’s dream), high ceilings for ease of moving boards around, and a dust-free finish room.

So, I'll leave you with a prompt, inspired by my conversation with Moe and Sarah – what is it that makes you most excited in life, and what is one small step you can take today to bring you closer to it? Let me know in the comments below!
