Teaching Moment Share

Hi Friends, I would like to share a wonderful teaching moment with you that happened this week. One of my college students stayed after class to tell me she is starting to see the world around her more like an artist, and that she is noticing beauty, and mystery in her everyday surroundings in things that would have been otherwise been ignored or overlooked.

To me, living life as an artist is all about noticing what is already around us, and taking account of it. We internalize it, then put it back out into the world somehow, and it all starts with us noticing the wonders that surround us. So to hear this from one of my students was beyond magical. I feel that I am meeting my life's purpose by helping students find the art that surrounds them.

That's my teaching moment from this week! I paired it with this photo of a cardinal near a park in NYC a few weeks ago, spreading its wings and taking flight. What motivates you to teach? What teaching moments stand out as eye-opening into the impact you have on students' lives? Let me know in the comments!
